Below is a list of some points to consider that can help you better prepare for the arrangements:

  • Photo to be enlarged
  • Which burial grounds or crematorium to use

Should I hold the wake at a memorial hall or at our HDB void deck?

There are a few factors to consider when deciding whether to hold the wake at a memorial hall or void deck. One of which would be you and your family’s personal preference. Below are also a few factors you can take into consideration when making the decision:

Pros of Memorial Hall:

  • The keys for the memorial hall will be handed over to the family for the duration of the wake. Family members have the choice to lock up the unit and head home to rest for the night instead of keeping vigil at the wake overnight
  • Our memorial halls are located in central Singapore, and might thus be more convenient for family and friends who are visiting the wake
  • Preferred option for those staying at condominiums as some places do not allow funeral wakes to be held
  • Some families staying in private houses may prefer the option of a memorial hall as they do not wish to set up a tentage in their homes or to protect the privacy of their house.

Pros of Void Deck:

  • Relatively cheaper than renting a memorial hall.
  • Convenient for family members who live nearby or at the HDB block.
  • Easier for neighbours or friends of the departed loved one to visit.

For families living in landed property, a permit from LTA is necessary if you intend to use part of the road outside of your house.

How much does a funeral typically cost in Singapore?

The cost of a funeral service in Singapore largely depends on the type of funeral chosen (Buddhist, Christian, non-religious etc) as well as the complexity of the funeral. At Casket Fairprice, we value transparent pricing and giving our customers the flexibility to review our prices online before engaging our services. Our average cost for a 3 day funeral service with all the basic essentials amounts to about S$4,000 to $6,000. This is considering that the service is not inclusive of other services offered, such as food catering or memorial videos and photographs.

Must I Hold The Funeral/Wake At Casket Fairprice's Parlour?

You may hold the funeral/wake at our Sin Ming funeral parlour, but it is not compulsory.

We understand that some families may prefer to hold the ceremony at their void deck due to the convenience of location as well as to reduce the funeral expenses, while others may prefer holding it at our memorial hall due to the convenience of amenities. As such, we let our clients choose where they want to hold the wake.
In each of the funeral package pages, we have provided the package prices for holding the ceremony at the HDB void deck and our memorial hall so you can compare the prices and make an informed decision.

Alternatively, if you would like to hold the wake at your preferred parlour in Singapore, you may also let us know your preferences and we will proceed to make the funeral arrangements at your chosen location. All administrative tasks, such as booking of the parlour will be handled by our team as well.
If you are still unsure if you should hold the ceremony at our funeral parlour or your void deck, give us a call and our funeral advisors will be able to assist you further.

How Do Funeral Directors Help With Planning A Funeral?

In general, funeral directors help to facilitate and sort out the logistical needs of funerals and wakes. They work with the various suppliers and authorities to ensure that funeral processes are carried out smoothly. In addition, they also handle the paperwork that comes with engaging the suppliers as well as applying for various permits.

While doing so, funeral directors also assist the grieving families emotionally as they advise clients who may not be familiar with the funeral processions and the religious rites and traditions of funerals, as well as fulfil the needs and requests of clients so as to direct a successful and personalised funeral for their loved one.

How long can you hold a funeral service?

In Singapore, wakes can last from 1 to 7 days. Depending on different religions and traditions, the number of days for a funeral wake will vary. If the wake extends to more than 7 days after death, written permission will have to be obtained from the NEA.

Can I Have A Funeral Without Service?

Depending on the wishes of the family or the dearly departed, having a funeral without an extended service is possible. Usually, a short memorial or praying service takes place at the crematory hall before the funeral. For family members that are not familiar with the funeral and memorial process, getting help from a funeral company is a good decision.

Should I choose burial or cremation?

Whether you decide on burial or cremation, our administrative team will assist with the booking of the permit and slot.

The decision to choose burial or cremation lies primarily on the preferences of the bereaved family and the wishes of the dearly departed (if any)

However, in Singapore, due to land constraints, the only cemetery available for burial is Choa Chu Kang Cemetery. Burial periods for graves are limited to a time span of 15 years, after which, the graves will be exhumed. Cremation will be carried out for those whose religions permit, and the remains can be stored in columbarium niches or scattered at sea. For those that require compulsory burial, the remains will be re-buried but in smaller individual plots.
